WINE LIST

ABOUT OUR WINE LIST

Wine is an organic product; it is born, has a young life, matures and eventually dies. It follows, therefore,  that a wine list needs be organic.  Vintages come, are consumed, disappear or simply lose their vigour, thus we are unable to offer any wine or vintage on a permanent basis.  Indeed, any hotel or restaurant that tried, would have to offer a poor list of mass produced, characterless wines and this we are sure, would be anathema to our customers.  Obviously we attempt to provide some continuity but, given the temporal nature of wine we make no apology if a vintage runs out, or your favourite wine has all been consumed.  If this is the case we will be pleased to suggest alternatives, and in doing so hope we can broaden your drinking pleasure.

The list is comprehensive and contains some rare gems, particularly in the claret section. However, the New World is now producing some superlative wines in terms of both quality and value and these are well represented on the list.

The production of fine and rare wines is no longer the province of the French alone.  America, Australia, New Zealand and indeed, Chile are coming on stream with superlative wines, Grange, Opus One, Martha’s Vineyard, Rubicon, Dominus, Caymus, the Armagh to name but a few.  Indeed, it is the Australians in particular, who have almost single-handedly rescued the Vins de Pays of Southern France from obscurity.

We hope that you enjoy drinking the wines on this list as much as we have enjoyed compiling it.
